Scouting the Enemy - UW Pregame

Well it's time to start a tradition, something called Scouting the Enemy (A basic rundown of all things good and bad about UCLA's next opponent).

UCLA Bruins 3-5 (0-5) vs. Washington Huskies 3-5 (2-3 PAC 10)

On homecoming, UCLA, who will be wearing their 1967 throwbacks, looks to earn their first conference win against the Huskies.

Follow me after the jump.

13-9's Random Tidbits:
  • UCLA had their best offensive performance of the year in the 4th quarter of last week’s game @ Oregon State where they came up short on the final play of the game inside Beaver territory
  • UW Coaches Steve Sarkisian and Nick Holt have transformed the attitude of Husky football, encouraging them to one of the biggest upsets of the year, where the two ex-USC coaches topped their mentor, if that is the proper wording for it, Pete Carroll in a thrilling matchup in Seattle.
  • UCLA has had one of the toughest schedules to befall on a team so far this year, enroute to their 0-5 conference start. Among them were heavy-duty playmakers such as Toby Gerhart, LaMichael James (Ask USC about him), Jahvid Best, Nick Foles, and Jacquizz Rodgers... all in succession. Their defense hasn’t performed up to par though, as a lack of aggression in game planning has resulted in spiked YPG averages.
  • UW’s star QB, and surefire athlete, Jake Locker looks ready to go after being marketed as a “questionable” starter for Saturday’s game. He is bordering on 2000 yards, and has thrown 12 TD’s this season to 8 INT’s.

Fearless Analysis
  1. As shown in my other posts over on BN here which clearly states that the only way UCLA will have a shot here is to bring some heat.
  2. UCLA’s offense can’t just assume that their good fortune will continue, they need to continue the Airraid composition, get downfield, and then open up the running game. Chow is more than ready to get back to his own game of playcalling... instead of this “let’s let the defense screw it up for us” mentality that he hated from the get-go.
  3. UW is coming in hungry; just like UCLA, the Huskies are leaving their bowl hopes to these final games, which are tasks hard enough. My advantage here would go to the Huskies, because... they’ve won at least ONE game in the PAC 10.
More later...

  1. How do you think our defensive front 7 will contain Jake Locker? He may not have the weapons that Masoli has but I think we can agree he is just as good an athlete and possibly the best quarterback in the conference.
